My attempt (not literal but giving the sense):

It takes a silly person to say they won´t trust anyone in life, it takes a cautious (calculating) person to trust somebody twice

So if I´m getting the sense of it they are talking about trusting the same person twice....at first I thought it was saying something about think twice before trusting someone.  If it is about trusting the same person twice it makes a little more sense in the content of the letter.

If I´m still misunderstanding it please let me know.
