For anyone wishing to learn turkish i would just like to recommend the following

eurotalk learn turkish. This is a cd rom with basic phrases, Covers areas such as numbers/colours/time/shopping. Its a good way to learn vocabulary but needs to be used with a proper course.

linguaphone turkish. This is a book and cds. Good to start with and especially if you are going on holiday.

beginners turkish by asuman pollard. Book with cds.Very thorough course. Very well expalined. Covers grammar easily. Having just had some one to one turkish lessons i have returned to this book and appreciated it even more in the way that it is set out.

Has anyone used Rosetta Stone? I bought it last year and sent it back for a refund. Why? Well it didnt seem to cover such basics as greetings/ decriptions etc to begin with. There is no translation in the course - though i did know that. The subject matter didnt seem appropriate . I am sure i went through all the course and couldnt find anything on areas such as shopping, meeting people etc. And yet the spanish course which is advertised on tv here show a lady asking questions about buying fruit and vegetables in a market.

The best thing i did was to have one to one lessons while on holiday. only had 4 hours with a qualified teacher but she has brought everything together
