Chingiz Aitmatov was an author who told the stories of ordinary people who lived in the Soviet Union. Some of these people embraced the socialism idea and struggled to make it prosper. But they were crushed under the cruel and inhuman politics of Stalin which saw human as an object, as a number. Some of them were accused of being traitors because they dared to criticize these politics. While Soviet revolution was crushing and destroying its own children, a new generation who was a stranger to itself, its nation and its culture was raised in Soviet boarding schools. A generation who had no respect to the nature, human and any culture.
The struggles between man and man, man and nature were often told in Aitmatov´s novels. Despite all disappointments he experienced, he still wanted to trust people. He didn´t want to lose the belief of a world which is peaceful and full of hope created by us. There are two novels of this great author of Kirghizes translated to English. One of them is his masterpiece "The Day Lasts More Than A Hundred Year" and other is a simple but touchy love story of him "Jamillia." I recommend you to read them.

A brilliant mind, probably never to be repeated. I read only one of his books "Plaha".
Thank you for your post, gokum.
