Shouldn´t it be ´Don´t forget it´s a lie that women like men who make them laugh´? - because that´s what the saying is in English.

hmm. i think you´re right or ´women like men who laugh at themselves´ - i.e. are not arrogant.  It´s just that I have often heard in English ´women like men who make them laugh´ - different idiom obviously.

As a learner, I would vote for Adam25´s first translation:

because, AFAIK, -i güldurmek means "to make someone laugh" (it is causative form of "gülmek"). To laugh at someone is "-e gülmek".

As for the meaning of "kendini" - I think that here it refers to "kadınlar", not to the "erkerler". If "güldurmek" here means "to make someone laugh" and "kendini" refered to "erkekler", then we would have to translate it as "Women like men who make themselve laugh", but I think that "Women like men who make them laugh" makes more sense.

So, in my opinion, the correct version is the merge of sonunda´s and Adam´s translations:

Don´t forget, it´s a lie that women like men who make them laugh. Because actually, women only laugh at men that they like.
