I don´t know whether you have done this exercise here about demonstrative possessive pronouns.
Basically bu (this), şu (that) and o (that, further away) are determined by the distance from you. Generally bu refers to something very close to you, that you could touch or reach, or point at close by. Şu would be for something in the same room, but not as close, and o for something furthest away.
Unfortunately o is also used for his/her/it and can sometimes be confused, especially with the possessive suffixes, onun (belonging to that, OR his/her/its) and onların (belonging to those/of those OR their ...)
Some examples from the exercise link
1) That dog has a black collar. ........ tasması siyah.
a) onun tasması siyah = that´s (that dog´s) collar is black (the correct answer)
This sentence could also be translated as ´His/her/its collar is black.´
b) bunun tasması siyah = this´s (this dog´s) collar is black
c) şunun tasması siyah = that´s (that dog´s) collar is black (I also consider this to be a correct answer)
d) onların
2) Those cars have wide tyres. ........ tekerlekleri geniş.
b) onların tekerlekleri geniş. = those´s (those cars´ wheels are wide.
3) This flashlight is not working. ...... pili yok.
d) bunun pili yok. = this´s (this flashlight´s) battery is not (working)
4) I don´t know what these are called. ........ adları ne
c) bunların adları ne? What are the names of these?
(literally these´s names what)
5) I want to know how much this book right here is. ..... fiyatı ne kadar?
b) şunun fiyatı ne kadar? How much is this (book´s) price?
