in this turkish sentence there is missing letters and doesnt sound right..

that should be like this

Ben telefonu cevapladım (açtım) ama kimse yoktu.

I answered the phone, but there was no one.(there)

Telefon is  direct object and must take -u = telefonu

Cevap is noun. "Cevapım" means "I am the answer" 

Its verb is cevapla-

Add -dı to it to make it past = cevapladı

And now add first person personal ending -m to it = cevapladım

Ben telefonu cevapladım

yok = there is no(t)

yoktu = there was no(t)

Ben telefonu cevapladım, ama orada kimse yoktu.
