-Turkish : “Cahil ile dost olma, ilim bilmez, irfan bilmez, söz bilmez, sonra üzülürsün.”

- English:

Could  we say it like this in English?

“ Do not be friend with the ignorant, because they cannot know the science, they cannot know the wisdom – comprehension-, they cannot know the word – remark, promise, understanding, ethical value -  then you feel sad.”

Ignorant means in this text, a person who is uncultured-uneducated- ,  disrespectful, shoddy and evil minded .

Actually, no. Because Şeyh Edebali is saying this sentence to Osman Bey. If he becomes friend with the ignorant, he will not know any wisdom. They are already ignorant. He is advicing him not to be one of them.
