For the ones who will be carrying out (or participating in) ‘the Turkish Language Education Symposium’ on the 12^th to the 14^th of May 2011, (due to) the approaching heavy demand, and on top of some application form shortages, the final application date has been extended until the date of the 18^th of February, 2011.

 Harika..! Excellent.. i think for the addressing word  "Değerli Arkadaşlar",  Dear friends would sound bit better isnt it? you know better as you are english native speaker..

You are correct, normally in English we would use ´Dear Friends´.

(Genellikle ´dear friends´ kullanıyoruz.)

But don´t you use ´sevgili arkadaşlar´ for ´dear friends´?

You can say worthy/valuable/esteemed friends as a literal translation for değerli arkadaşlar.

 yes we can use "Sevgili Arkadaşlar" and " Değerli Arkadaşlar" or " Kıymetli Arkadaşlar" . I asked since I never knew you could use  "worthy friends" as an adressing word. now I know..thanks for the information.

Hmmmm ........ now that I think about it, I have never seen or heard someone say ´worthy friends´ as a greeting.   

I have only heard ´esteemed friends´ used on a very formal occasion.

Dear Friends would be the common salutation.

 Here is a great difference between Turkish and English. Turkish has some very formal modes of address:

değerli arkadaşlar = literally valuable friends

değerli konuklar = literally valued/valuable guests

sayın seyirciler = literally respected viewers

In English we are a lot less formal. In official speeches you might start off "ladies and gentlemen" or even "lords, ladies and gentlemen" if at that sort of occasion (!!!!!) but in general someone on TV, or writing a letter, or making an announcement does not use modes of address like the Turkish ones.

So what is the practical effect?

(1) When Turks make speeches in English, if they use translations such as "valued guests, dear listeners" etc they can come over as very flowery, and it can seem a little old-fashioned or over-flattering to the English listener.

(2) When English people make a speech in Turkish, if they don´t use "değerli konuklar" etc they can come over as rude and disrespectful.

Vive la difference!

I would translate it as follows.

The final application date for the Turkish Language Education Symposium on the 12^th to the 14^th of May 2011  has been extended until the date of the 18^th of February, 2011, Due to ongoing heavy demand and uncompleted application forms.
