Could someone translate me this passage please?

"Daha sonra yollar açıldı ve ben Lefke´ye nişan oldum. 1968 yılında askerliği bıraktım. Kıbrıs Maden Şirketi´nde Mavroni Karadağ dediğimiz bölgede iş aldım. Trene dozer ile bakır madeni yüklerdim. "

My try as learner:

Later, way was opened, and I became engaged to Lefke. Later, the roads opened and I made my way towards Lefke. In 1968 I left military service. I got a job in Kıbrıs Maden company (literally something like "Cyprus Minerals" / "Cyprus Mines"), in region which we call Mavroni Karadağ (literally Mavroni Black-mountain). I was (bull)dozer operator, and I used to load copper ore(*) on to train.

(* - I´m not sure about the "copper ore" here ; literally "bakır madeni" means "copper mine", probably the meaning like "copper mineral" is possible too; I thought that the author meant "copper ore", and I translated it like this, however in Turkish "copper ore" is "bakır cevheri", not "bakır madeni")

Thank you. You helped me a lot. I am trying to locate the places in the text. I found them all, except that Mavroni Karadağ. Is it a mountain?

Karadağ could refer to Montenegro.

It seems it is in Cyprus, and Karadağ is mentioned in this article on the town of Lefke

If you use GoogleEarth and search for Lefka, Cyprus, you can see remains of old open cut mines and the green tinge of the copper ore just south of the town.

Good luck with your research. Smile

Sadly, as a result of this copper mining, it looks like there are still environmental problems in this area of Northern Cyprus.

"nişan" does mean engaged, but also it means a target or aiming for.

So perhaps it would make more sense to be

"Later, the roads opened and I made my way towards Lefke". As this is a place in Cyprus it seems to fit better

Thank you Marion for noticing this. I saw this word before in the meaning of "engagement" so I didn´t even look into the dictionary to check if it has another meanings (and, while writing my translation, I thought that Lefke must be a woman´s name {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}). I´ll fix my post now.
