Codes to the most recent university entrance exam emerged “by mistake,” Turkey´s Student Selection and Placement Center, or ÖSYM, has said in a letter sent to students, private broadcaster CNNTürk reported Wednesday.
In the letter, ÖSYM accepted the coding allegations and said the problems were accidental. However, ÖSYM has also stood by its claims that the coding incident did not affect the outcome of the exam. “After examining large numbers of question booklets, not a single candidate whose answers were based on the code has been spotted,” said Professor Ali Demir, the head of ÖSYM. In the letter, Demir also insisted that the test organized by the ÖSYM had made it possible for the students to determine the course of their future solely based on their level of knowledge, and that the questions had been prepared in total isolation from the rest of the world. “Moreover, the statistical evaluations made on all the candidates’ raw scores revealed nothing out of the ordinary,” said Demir.
Some 1.7 million students took the national exam, known by its Turkish acronym, YGS, in March. After the exam, an allegation claiming that the correct answers on the test could be determined using a special code emerged, sparking heated discussions throughout the country.
Not : OSYM admitted the codes ! so now ? and it was " by mistake " ? are we supposed to believe this ?
