The entire Christian world, including both the Eastern and Western churches, will be celebrating Easter on the same date this year, April 24. Easter rites began in Turkey on the eve of “Holy Thursday,” when all Christians in Turkey flocked to churches, and the faithful walked back to their homes with candles.

The Holy Thursday rites attracted a lot of attention in Istanbul. In accordance with tradition, the faithful walked back to their homes with candles after participating in rituals that lasted the whole day and ended at midnight. Streets in the district of Şişli, where many of Istanbul’s Christians reside, were lit up with candles. Asides from the Armenian Apostolic, Greek and Syriac Orthodox churches, rituals were also conducted in Catholic, Protestant and Anglican churches as well.

All churches across Turkey will be conducting rites throughout this week to commemorate the “Holy Week,” which precedes Easter, and is the last week of “Lent,” a 40-day period of fasting and prayer, when the consumption of animal products and entertainment are prohibited.

According to Christian tradition, Jesus Christ rose from the dead three days after he was crucified, and Christians celebrate the Easter in order to commemorate Jesus’s resurrection. Easter is also closely linked to the Jewish Passover in terms of its symbolism

Note : Tüm Hristiyanların " Paskalya Bayramı´nı " kutlarım.
