We dont use "units" anymore. We currently use " Liras" instead. So you can ask "5 or 10 or 20 or 30  Liralık [vodafone, turkcell or avea ] kontör istiyorum lütfen "

John ... don´t forget, in their attamepts to stop illegal importing of large quantities of cell phones from abroad, if you bought your phone abroad and brought it with you to Turkey, it will only work for a short period of time and then will be locked (kilitli). To stop this happening you need to go to a phone shop (e.g. Turkcell) and get the phone registered to your passport. Everyone is entitled to have one overseas telephone registered in their name.

Note: here I am referring to the actual handset (cihaz) not the phoen line (numara)
