CHP creates a team of 600,000 for Turkish election security

A 600,000-strong team has been tasked by the main opposition to observe Sunday’s general polls vote and ensure that no electoral fraud occurs, the Republican People’s Party, or CHP, said Wednesday.

“We have not taken necessary measures in previous elections but this time we’ll observe every single ballot box,” CHP Süheyl Batum deputy leader told reporters at a press conference. “We will observe every record, plus we will make our own records and then we will compare them with the ones coming from the YSK [Supreme Election Board],”

Voters’ minds have been confused by news that 13 million extra ballots have been printed and that there has been a rapid increase in the number of voters eligible to participate in the elections, Batum said, criticizing the government for failing to give satisfactory answers to these questions.

“As we have seen, the government is dragging its feet in providing conditions for healthy elections,” Batum said.

“In addition, we have created our own software program similar to that of the YSK. A government that can ruin the university placement exam can do anything,” the deputy leader said but assured CHP voters that all measures would be taken to protect their votes.

“We will carry any illegality or wrongdoing to the court,” Batum said.
