How to create passive form of koymak? I´m looking for something like ´to be put, to be placed´. In my thinking it should be koyulmak, but the dictionary insists it means ´to begin´ etc. Do I have to use another stem?

koy-mak -> koy-ul-mak

but it has olsa ko-mak form:

ko-mak -> ko-n-mak

in daily speech, koy-ul-mak is preferred nowadays but "ko-mak" form is the original one. koy-mak comes from ko-mak as a later development in daily speech.

geceko-n-du (slum,shanty)

ko-n-ak (residence, villa)

ko-n-u (subject)

ko-n-uk (guest, visitor)

and you can also see it take another passive suffix (though it´s wrong grammatically)

ko-n-ul-mak (-n- and -ul are both passive suffixes) = to be put (chances are you will find this one in your dictionary)

It is koyulmak as you said. Here is an example:

Sandalye mutfağa koyuldu.

The chair was put into kitchen.

Koyulmak has also a meaning such as "to begin".

İşe koyulmak means to begin to work.

Yola koyulmak means to begin to go.

İşe koyulmak means to begin to work.

Yola koyulmak means to begin to go.

But it has no passive meaning rather reflexive.

Put oneself working on something

Put oneself on the road

Thank you, si++ and gokuyum. The answers are always ready on top your tongue.

In other words, it seems that the use of koyulmak has widened from grammatical passive into more abstract meanings. The route to ´begin´ is still transparent which shows in the examples.

I got the last word anyway.
