I am a real beginner and I am getting very confused

ok, the sentence is: Today I tried to learn more Turkish

There are 2 verbs. I am trying to follow the rule - Subject, Object, Verb.

According to google translate it is : Bugün daha çok Türkçe öğrenmeye çalıştım

But I make it Bugun çok Türkçe denerdim öğren

Where oh where am I going wrong???

subject whom the sentence is about, the object receiving the action, and the verb,the action.

For instance

Ben (S) Eve(O) gidiyorum (V)

I to the house - ev is house "e" denotes "to"  going.

Well that´s what I´m finding confusing. I want to translate the phrase "Today I tried to learn more Turkish" but there are two verbs - to try, and, to learn. So what is the correct translation? How do I structure it?

You use the wrong meaning of "trying"

When you try something, such as a cloth, you use "denemek" verb.

But when you try to do something, such as try to learn Turkish, you use "çalışmak" verb.

So when you translate "Today I tried to learn more Turkish" you will translate it like this: "Bugün daha çok Türkçe öğrenmeye çalıştım."

Nothing is more normal than "getting very confused" if you are a real beginner and yet trying to learn how to translate Turkish verbs following each other immidiately. 

Google´s translation is correct: Bugün daha çok Türkçe öğrenmeye çalıştım.

If the second verb (which is the main verb) is çalış, the first verb always is in mek/mak form (no more verb, but noun), and suffixed by e/a (which meke changes into meye, and maka into maya)

öğren.mek.e => öğren.mey.e - to learn

The verb "çalış" (as the main verb) takes time + personal endings.

tı (past tense)

m (first person singular)

çalış.tı.m - I tried

öğrenmeye çalıştım - I tried to learn
