The coffee is too expensive.

I ate too much.

You walk too fast.

I have been trying to find out the translation of too in such contexts, but I have failed. I have asked for translations of these sentences, but I have so far not found a pattern. Comparable to my other topic, where I wonder about "not... anymore".

too+adj = çok+adj

too expensive = çok pahalı

too much = çok fazla

too fast = çok hızlı

So there is no difference between too and very in Turkish.

very expensive = too expensive = çok pahalı

very fast = too fast

very much = too much

usually no. But if you want be more specific you might add another adjective.

too expensive = çok (aşırı ) pahalı

too fast = çok (aşırı ) hızlı

too much = çok (aşırı ) fazla

Edit:

On a second thought "aşırı" sounds like a good approximation for "too" though we usually don´t use it that way:

too expensive = aşırı pahalı

too fast = aşırı hızlı

too much = aşırı fazla

Sometimes we natives don´t notice it but you learners make us think of new ways. A translator would usually translate the above exmples with "too=çok" but "aşırı" sounds like a better alternative.

What about fazla?

Yes maybe! You may replace it with aşırı given in the previous post of mine.

Too expensive = Çok (aşırı pahalı = Çok (fazla) pahalı
