k changing to ğ

Merhaba,

I was just doing a few grammar exercises. I learnt that k changes to ğ if k comes before a vowel. Example kazak > kazağı

So in this example I applied the same rule: Cacık > cacığda , but it is actually cacıkta.

Can someone explain why the K didnt change to Ğ in this example, is it something to do with the ı in the word.

Thank you

And also if anyone has any more exercises/examples in relation to this grammar point please show me

1)After "p,ç,t,k" if a suffix which starts with a vowel (a,e,ı,i,o,ö,u,ü ) come "p, ç, t, k" soften and become "b,c,d, ğ"

2)After "f,s,t,k,ç,ş,h,p" if a suffix which starts with "c,d,g" come  "c,d,g" harden and become "ç,t,k"

1)cacık-a becomes cacığa

2)cacık-da becomes cacıkta

Eventually you will also learn exceptions,

eg renk (colour) mutates to rengi eg kahve rengi (brown/ literally - coffee colour)

Si++, I agree the search box function (top right of this page) is a fantastic facility. I am always using it to reference previous discussions. But sometimes people need personal explanations, and what seems simple to one learner, can be confusing to another learner. Once we understand something fully, we feel we have progressed. As you know, websites, textbooks and dictionaries are never enough to really learn a language.

Thankfully you, Tunci, Gokuyum, Harpoon, Faruk and others still take the time to translate, correct, and sometimes explain the more complex questions about Turkish. Also Marion´s explanations often help us because she gives answers from an English point of view. As learners we appreciate your help, and some of us enjoy helping other learners if we can.  Smile
