'Neden', 'niye' and 'niçin' all mean 'why'. You can use any you like. They are interchangeable. I prefer 'neden'.

It's not my intention to discuss about the language with native speakers, but I learnt that with "neden" you ask for a cause:

Neden bebek ağlıyor? Cünkü başı ağrıyor.

Niçin/niye should be used when asking for a purpose, a goal..

Niçin/niye bebek ağlıyor? Cünkü süt istiyor.

Does this sound plausible?

There was a thread that went into this issue in details......
