Hi

I´m moving to London in the new year and would like to start Turkish classes. I´m a complete beginner, with only a little conversational knowledge picked up from friends in Turkey. Can anyone help at all?

I have checked out a couple of courses however they appear to be rather expensive (as are most things in London Cry)

Thanks in advance!

Val

Val, you could do private lessons, but most of the London Boroughs offer Turkish in their evening classes. For example, in South London years ago I went to classes in Peckham

These are always reasonably priced, and from my experience are pretty much beginners level, aiming at children of Turkish parents who need to learn to be able to talk to their grandparents back home, or english people who have bought a home in Cyprus and want to learn some of the language!

For example, Morley College seems to be 142 pounds for a 12 week course. Lewisham 80 pounds for a 10 week course. There are often reductions for concessions (unemployed, students, pensioners)

Check out the website of your local council for Turkish evening classes.

Here is a link I found with 2 mins of googling:

Thanks for the help MarioninTurkey, I had already seen these courses, unfortunately as it´s almost half way through the academic year, I am too late to start a course this year.

Thanks anyway!

I highly recommend to check http://yunusemreenstitusu.org/england/index.php?lang=en&page=8&anIIcat_1=0&anIIitm_1=46 (Yunus emre cultural center)

Though they have straight connections with the president´s office in Ankara, I dont think it will bother you.

Their email address : Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre (londra@yunusemrevakfi.com.tr)

Address: 10 Maple Street, London, W1T 5HA
Phone: +44 207 387 3036

Give them a ring.. They are quite friendly..

All private courses will be expensive but however if you choose that way, send me a pm, there are many in London, doing this type of thing.
