Visa policy for foreigners visiting Turkey to be eased

8 March 2012 / TODAY´S ZAMAN, ANKARA
Foreigners visiting Turkey will be able to prolong their 90-day tourist visas to nine months, allowing them to have more time to enjoy Turkey without the hassle of acquiring a residence permit.

Under the current visa regulations, tourists are currently only allowed to stay 90 days in 180 days. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has made a change to the visa policy for foreigners, enabling them to extend tourist visas for an additional six months.

Those whose visas have already expired will also be able to extend their stay in Turkey to nine months upon paying a fine.

Note : I think its good news !

I know it says officially you are allowed to stay 90 days within a 180 day period... but is that really true? In Holland 90 days within 180 days means of the 180 days, you are only allowed 90 days in Holland. So if you are here 90 days, you can not enter in the next 90 days. In Turkey this is not the case. I spend my 90 day visa, was a week abroad, and than came back on a tourist visa again. That´s more than 90 days in a 180 days period. Or do I understand this rule of Turkish visa´s the wrong way...confused...

That´s my point... I know it was different before, but I already have these 90 days/180 days visas in my passport, and stayed over 90 days in the 180 days period. I guess nobody really cares how long you stay as long as you buy a new visa...

90 days? I think that two years ago tourist visas were valid for only 30 days. When did it change to 90 days?

(looks like the world went on while i was sleeping under ice ... )

I have bought tourist visas in Turkey that last for 90 days since 2000 (when the visa said 3 months instead of 90 days)

Thank you Henry - good to know. Then I have no idea where I got these "30 days" from... but it makes news about extending visa validity period to 9 months sound even better

Within your 90 days you go to the yabancilar şubesi of your local emniyet müdürlüğü and apply to extend your tourist visa. It is cheaper and easier than the 1 year or 5 year residence permit (ikamet) as a tourist.
