Pronouncing 'r'

There is a problem with the letter "r" in the english language as well. Often on radio and television you will hear people adding an "r" to the end of certain words.

But English is not monophonetic like Türkçe!

This isn't the only place I have heard this.....
"Beginners Turkish" CD-ROM pronounces 'bir' as if it were the English word "beers"!
But I suspect that pronounication will be the least of my worries whilst in Turkia! Understanding what is being said to me is the greatest challenge at the moment

Well I think 'monophonetic' is quite relative anyway.
If you look at 'seni seviyorum' both the 'se' should sound the same. If osmeone takes REAL care of the way he speaks, like a news-reader, it might sound the same.. but when i heard it around me, the second 'se' always sounded a bit longer, whereas the first sounded more closed.
Spoken language always sounds different than the theoretic rules about the way it shoul dbe spoken. But i understand what you meant with the -r- sound, I heard it often while listening Sezen Aksu, i like it.

But it still amounts to mispronunciation surely. Maybe the person you heard saying saying beers instead of bir had a few beers before he made the recording

I would hope not as it is on a CD-ROM to learn from!!!
But, of course, I had a few beers before listening to it
