Hi I am trying to understand the context to this poem. I think it is about someone who is in love but feels that it would be better not to love someone.... but I may be totally wrong

Aşk kaçmaktan çok kovalamayı sever Gormekten çok özkemeyi Dokunmaktan çok düşlemeyi Ve aşk öyle haindir ki

I have been told that it translates to:

Love likes to chase better than to escape,

to long better than to see,

to dream better than to touch.

Such a traitor is love.

thanks

Kath

I am not a poet but I will try to explain by following Abla´s excellent translation ;

just to remind you that Poetic verses can not be translated 100 percent into another language as it loses it´s taste and spirit. It is like moving a flower from it´s place and replanting it into another place. The flower can still survive but it loses it´s vividness.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Love is such a weird thing that follows the opposite rules of this world.

Say a man/woman fell in love with a woman/man. The lover feels such an ecstatic enjoyment with chasing his/her lover, rather than staying away from him/her.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Normally, we all prefer seeing our loved ones rather than having them away missing them.

However the lover weirdly prefer missing his lover , he prefers being away from her, so that he can miss her. By doing this , he choses the strange taste of agony of love that makes his love strong.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Likewise, the lover prefers dreaming of his lover rather than touching her since if he touches her [physcial contact] might breaks the magic of love.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And " Love is such a traitor " , According to the worldly values love brings trust, reliance. But in unrequited love, the lover on the contrary feels insecure, lack of trust , and fear of losing his lover. And when the worst happens [ she leaves him ] he feels that he is been betrayed by love. Therefore he thinks Love is a traitor.
