Hi,

The following examples are in the vowel rule lesson in beginner 1:

kedi-in-ki-den -> kedi-n-in-ki-n-den -> kedininkinden (from the cat´s)

gemi-leri-den -> gemi-leri-n-den -> gemilerinden (from their ship)

I don´t get what the "ki" suffix refers to. Is it because two "n" will follow each other without a separator or what.

Thanks in advance

Hend

kedininkinden

-ki is a funny pronoun which is usually attached to genitive words or place expressions:

                           Ali´ninki ´the one of Ali´s´

                           İzmir´deki ´the one in Izmir´

It changes the genitive words into nouns and the time expressions into adjectives.

kedi|nin|ki|n|den = STEM + GEN + -ki- + BUFFER + ABL

Look, there are two case endings in the same word. That is because kedi is one noun and kedininki is another.

-ki- does not follow vowel harmony but of course only front vowels follow it.

Hi Abla,

Is it like "sağdaki" and "soldaki"? i used sağ & sol before and turkish friends told me to say sağdaki & soldaki meaning on the right hand and the left hand.... I think i won´t be able to use it myself or i just need to sleep for a while?!

Yes.

Yürek solda atar. ´The heart beats on the left.´ (solda is an adverb, it modifies the verb)

soldaki son ev ´the last house on the left side´ (soldaki is an adjective, it modifies the noun)
