Hi everyone. I know ive been absent much, busy with class work and life, but I am still taking some time to practice Turkish, especially writing.

This was sent to me through the professional networking site called LinkedIn. And its a message from a recent contact I made, who is a Turkish guy recently graduated(I think) Ive already exchanged a few messages back and fourth with him, (and he seems to understand my Turkish so far) so Ive attempted most of the translation myself, so I think I get the gist.

But the paragraph next to the last(in red), was a little confusing. I had asked him what is meant by "hayırdır", and how its used, but i only understand bits of the explanation. Also please do give corrections where needed, if you want to. Thank you!

Ben şu anda okulda okumuyorum. En son İstanbul Üniversitesini bitirdim. Ama eğer İngilizce çalışmamı soruyorsan evet iyi gidiyor. Bu sıralar üzerine fazla düşmüyorum İngilizcenin. Ama ara sıra bakıyorum.

I am currently not studying in school. I last finished (graduated) Istanbul university. But if you ask, my English study is going good. These English lines don´t let up. But from time to time I look.

Arapça da tabi ki öğrenebilirsin. Ama dil öğrenmek çok zaman alıyor biliyorsun. Bence gerçekten işine yarayacaksa ve zevk alacaksan bir dil öğren. Zaten sana şunu söyleyeyim, bizim Türkçe´de kullandığımız kelimelerin bir kısmı Arapça. Yani Arapça´yı da bir miktar öğrenmiş oldun diyebiliriz.

Of course you can learn Arabic. But to learn a language is very time consuming you know. I think learning a language really serves and is a pleasure. I have to say to you your words in Turkish, that we are using already part Arabic. I mean we can say you learned Arabic is also an amount.

Sen dizayn bölümünde okuyorsun değil mi? Ben de dün Düşler Akademisi isimli bir yardım kuruluşundaydım. Orada engelli arkadaşlar için çeşitli atölyeler yapılıyor. Fotoğraf, Photoshop, dans, ritim vb. Ben de Photoshop ve Fotoğraf atölyelerine yardımcı oluyorum. Ama hayatımda ilk defa Photoshop kullandım

You study design section, don´t you? Also yesterday Dusler Academy association, I am in the aid foundation. There, various workshop for disabled friends are done. Photography, dance/rhythm. I am also in the Photoshop and Photograph aid workshop. But in my life, the first time I used photoshop.

Türkçe merakın nereden geliyor? Amerika´da Türkçe öğrenmek çok kolay olmasa gerek. Kendi kendine lisan çalışmak da zor olmalı.

Where is your Turkish curiosity coming from? In America, Turkish if it is very easy to learn? To learn a language by myself must be difficult also.

I can draw very long sentences here. But if you have difficulty, I can draw shorter and more simple sentences.

You asked the meaning of the word ´Hayırdır´. The root of this word is ´Hayır´. Hayır means goodness, niceness. We often use it in daily language. If someone says ´Hayırdır´ while talking to you, it means that he wants to learn something about you or the topic that is being talked and he wants to know the reason.

For example, he sees that you´re upset and he says ´hayırdır´. He wants to learn why you´re upset.

Hayırdır means "What´s up? Is everything okay?" Something like this. I hope this will be helpful.

My try and not word for word but overall meaning

You asked the meaning of the word ´Hayırdır´. The root of this wood is ´Hayır´, ´Hayır´ has a meaning like goodness, beauty. We often use in conversatuon. If someone says ´hayirdir´ while chatting with you it means they are curious about you or interested about the topic and there is something they are curious about and want to learn the reason from you.

For example if someone saw you sad and they say ´Hayırdır´´ it means they want to learn why you are sad
