kendi anne babası tarafında doğumundan 13 yaşına kadar hiç kimseyle konuşturulmadan ve görüştürülmeden bir sandalyeye bağlı olarak kendi halinde büyütülen bir çocuk... kendi anne babası bile konuşmamış... durum anlaşıldığında baba intihar ediyor, çocuk korumaya alınıyor. Bilim adamları çocuğu inceliyorlar. Çocuk düzgün yürümüyor, tek bir kelime bile bilmiyor, daha önce hiç yabancı insan görmemiş... İzlemeye değer bir bir belgesel (requires english)

Facinating, and terribly tragic, thank you for posting this.

"Loss of funds and interest

Despite Genie´s relative success, the National Institute of Mental Health, which had funded the project, grew concerned about the lack of scientific research data generated, as well as the unprofessional manner in which records were being kept. In 1974, the Institute cut off funding for the research. The following year the Riglers decided to discontinue their foster parenting. Genie had not yet learned full grammatical English and only went so far as phrases like "Applesauce buy store," but some contend that her linguistic skills have been underestimated."

It seems everyone saw her as a opportuity towards self agrandizement.

Your post made me curious about this case, in my search I found she had a brother, for whom more can be learned about here. How can a person be so cruel?

Not only a person is cruel in this case, cruality went on after her therapy started and most probably ruined her life again forever.

"In 1975, Genie was returned to the custody of her mother, who wished to care for her daughter. After a few months, the mother found that taking care of Genie was too difficult, and Genie was transferred to a succession of six more foster homes. In some of the homes she was physically abused and harassed, and her development regressed severely. She returned to her coping mechanism of silence and gained a new fear of opening her mouth. This new fear developed after she was severely punished for vomiting in one of her foster homes; she did not want to open her mouth, even to speak, for fear of vomiting and facing punishment again."

Yes, I read the Wikapedia entry on her. This is a lesson on humanity, isn´t it? In reading these stories it´s easy to overlook the kindness of humans and become obsessed on the mean characters. Altruism is a trait that is too often undeveloped.

Humans cca be the highest of the high or the lowest of the low. Also, things are cyclic. I think we are in one of the particularly low cycles now.Altruism and opportunism can exist in the same individual, it´s what we choose to nourish and develop, don´t you think? I think meaness scars & limits the soul. Our ability to appreciate is diminished. To some even a diamond can not satisfy their desires, for others a dewdrop is more than enough.
