I ve heard that the beach of Ayvalik is kilometres long and one of the best ones in the aegean coastline.
And also, that from the 'Devil's table' you can watch one of the most amazing sunsets in the world.

Viewing the pictures in the link you gave us, I can do nothing but believe those rumors

There is no beach in Ayvalik Sophie, the beach is at Sarımsaklı which is a short dolmuş ride from Ayvlık centrum.
Ayvalık is a fishing town. İt is quite small. Lots of Greeks used to live there and this is obvious by the greek architecture which can be seen all over. There are some beautiful old Greek churches some in ruins but lots have been restored and with the addition of a minaret have been turned into mosques.

İt is quite expensive in Ayvalık. Especially food in the shops. There are lots of small boutiques and tourist shops as well as normal everyday shops. There are a lot of banks!

There is an island called Alıbey or Cunda. It is not really an island and you can get to it by boat or dolmuş. You can buy really cheap beaded jewellery there which people make for the tourists. You can also get a boat to the Greek İsland of Lesbos (unless of course you are a Turk!)

There are lots of great places to eat in Ayvalık. Speciality is fish (balık) of course. My favourite place to eat is the Deniziçi Cafe on the pier in Ayvalık centrum where they make the best Ayvalık Tostis. A kind of toasted sandwich with a kind of suçuk cheese pickled cucumber tomato mayonnaise and ketchup. mmmm......

The Pastane on the sea front makes the best salep İ ever tasted (and İ have tried plenty) and great cakes and borça.

Sarımsaklı is interesting. There are very few English people go there. İt is a resort for Turks and Serbians mostly. İt is a bit run down. There are huge salt water marshes there and you can see wild flamingoes. İ love sitting on the sea front eating sigara boreği and drinking tea and watching the world go by (notice how so much of my pleasures are to do with food!)

Ow, stop it Lyndie! You make it sound all too beautiful for me to wait any longer to go there!

I'm still thinking about going to Turkey for a long while to tour around the country, but I'm afraid it's not such a good idea for a girl to go there alone.. Maybe I'll find someone to go with me .

If I hear you talking about eating sigara böreği and drinking tea, I start drooling all over!
