Sunguroglu was fighting in dark thoughts. He explained their unexpected swooping onto them in two ways. They had either really imagined them to be spies or wanted to carry out the order their beys had given to them. There was a possibility that the bey of Yalova was liquidating all other messengers this way.

Sunguroglu brought himself out of his thoughts when he heard Ibrahim’s shouting. The situation was not excellent. Clinking the sword with twenty people didn’t much differ from asking for your death. He wasn’t too concerned about this side of the job. Because of living always very close to death  -  he had thoroughly adapted that feeling. But he wasn´t going to be able to do his duty and acquaint ed himself to what had happened to earlier messengers.

(Lack of context really bothers me. I feel like some sentences are ambiguous but natives will solve them by their instinct I guess.)
