Here are my thoughts ....
Lots of different combinations are used for Happy New Year and Happy Birthday, and some expressions can be used for both occasions
Let´s start by translating the words
mut/kut = happiness (and also implying good luck/fortune)
mutlu/kutlu = with happiness
olsun =let/may it be
yeni = new
Often expressions are also personalised
yeni yılın / yeni yılınız (your New Year)
yeni yılınız kutlu olsun (Happy New Year, May your New Year be happy)
mutlu yıllar (years with happiness) can be used as a New Year´s wish or a Birthday wish (Happy New Year or Happy Birthday)
doğum gününüz kutlu olsun (Happy Birthday, may your birthday be happy)
