Merdo - Aşık Mahzuni Şerif

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6dU7NYupHY

Such a great song.

Sana bir gün olsun gülmedi hayat
Kaderi berbat merdo merdo
Burası gurbet burası gurbet

Life hasn´t smiled at you even for one day

Your fate is awful Merdo Merdo?*

Here is foreign land, here is foreign land

Gelme demedim mi merdo
Dönme demedim mi
Vururlar seni merdo merdo
Söylemedim mi? söylemedim mi?

Haven´t I said "don´t come!" Merdo?

Haven´t I said "don´t come back!"?

"They will shoot you" Merdo Merdo

Haven´t I said? Haven´t I said?

Köprünün başında pusu kurarlar
Seni ararlar merdo merdo
İzin sorarlar seni kırarlar

They will lie in ambush in the corner of the bridge

They will look for you Merdo Merdo

They will trail you, they will kill you.

Gelme demedim mi merdo
Dönme demedim mi
Vururlar seni merdo merdo
Söylemedim mi? söylemedim mi?

Haven´t I said "don´t come!" Merdo?

Haven´t I said "don´t come back!"?

"They will shoot you" Merdo Merdo

Haven´t I said? Haven´t I said?

Mahsuni yanıyor derdo bitti baharı
Bahar ayları merdo merdo
Soldu dağları yeşil bağları

Mahsuni is burning in sorrows, his spring ended

In spring months Merdo Merdo

His mountains and green wineyards have wilted

Gelme demedim mi merdo
Dönme demedim mi
Vururlar seni merdo merdo
Söylemedim mi? söylemedim mi?

Haven´t I said "don´t come!" Merdo?

Haven´t I said "don´t come back!"?

"They will shoot you" Merdo Merdo

Haven´t I said? Haven´t I said?

Note: I guess Merdo is a nickname. I haven´t heard such a name. "Mert" as a noun means "brave man". Merdo is a way of adressing to a brave man. This type of adressing (with "o" at the end) is especialy common in Eastern Turkey.
