Contraction in Turkish

In some words or phrases , two or more vowels are compressed and becomes one vowel when they are formed as one word.

kahve  altı      ---->  became one word [kind of compressed]  ------>  kahvaltı [breakfast]

[before the coffee]

[lit. under the coffee]

In daily verbal language people say it even shorter  as " kavaltı" [this way the first "a" is pronounced bit longer]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

pek   iyi    ------>   peki  [last two "i" become one "i"] ----> means " all right" , "okay", " well" ….

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gemination in Turkish [consonant twinning]

* in some two syllable words we see the duplication in the consonant of the first syllable. The following two words became standart   at present time.

Original        Present form

Ana      ----->  Anne  [ Mother ]

Elig       -----> Elli   [ Fifty ]

 * Again, in some dialects we hear this "consonant twinning"  in spoken language.

Standart            In some dialects

Yedi                      Yedd

Sekiz                    Sekkiz

Eşek                     Eşşek

Sakız                    Sakkız

şek                   Döşşek
