Ok so if I understand this right, if a word ends with a vowel a, ı, o, u then we end the word with lar.  If there is a consonate after the vowel, we ignore the consonate and base our ending with the last vowel in the word?

For the the plural of words ending with e, i, ö, ü the ending is ler.

But what is y?  Is it a vowel or consonate?

well one word that comes to mind is köy, the plural is köyler, isn´t the y a vowel and why isn´t it taken into consideration?  Is the letter y the red headed child of the alphabet? {#emotions_dlg.think}

y isn´t a vowel. It is a consonant. There are eight vowls in Turkish. They are: a,e,ı,i,o,ö,u,ü.
