Hello, friends! I see you have been talking about the week´s events on other threads. I want to bring those events together here to express how proud I am of my president. Today and yesterday were good ones for us all.
Mr. Obama, whose greatest strength is his humanist outlook, brought a message of peace, understanding and realism to the region, and it already seems to be showing some results. We can hope for renewed talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis, we can hope for renewed ties between Turkey and Israel, and we can hope that the world will find a solution in Syria. None of these are easy problems, but that is why Mr. Obama´s byword is: "The audacity of hope." My favorite words from his trip, spoken to an enthusiastic audience of young people in Israel:
"Look at the world through their eyes. It is not fair that a Palestinian child cannot grow up in a state of their own."
And speaking of a visit with Palestinian young people in Ramallah:
"Talking to them, they weren´t that different from my daughters. They weren´t that different from your daughters or sons. I honestly believe that if any Israeli parent sat down with those kids, they´d say, ´I want these kids to succeed, I want them to prosper.´ "
And I close with congratulations on the events in Turkey this week in regard to the Kurds. Let us hope that on all these fronts, as Mr. Erdoğan expressed yesterday, good words become good deeds.
Barış! Salaam! Shalom!
