Ben senin kardeşinim-I am your brother

The word "kardeş" on its own has no gender in Turkish. In your Turkish sentence above, it is not clear whether you mean a "brother" or a "sister.

"Ben senin erkek kardeşinim" or " Ben senin kız kardeşinim" would have been clearer.

Notice that in both sentences, the implication is that you are the younger of the pair, because older brothers or sisters have special names in Turkish.

Ağabey (older brother)

Abla (older sister)

while we are at it,

üvey ağabey (older step brother)

üvey abla (older step sister)

üvey kardeş (younger step brother or sister)

Thanks, Turkish2412, for practicing this in public. Many learners mix possessive suffixes with personal endings and your examples show how they occur side by side.

There is something I would like to ask. It is about the plural marking.

Quote: Turkish2412

Biz senin kardeşleriniz-We are your brothers

Biz onun kardeşiyiz-We are his/her brothers

Biz sizin kardeşleriniz yiz-We are your brothers

Biz onların kardeşleri yiz-We are their brothers

Is it necessary to add LAR to the noun when the pronoun already shows the brothers are many? Could it be Biz sizin kardeşiniziz?

Merhaba Abla,

It´s not necessary, it´s optional. You can also say "Biz senin kardeşiniz"

Durun siz kardeşsiniz. Stop you are syblings.

The very tragic moment of some old Turkish movies. Someone appears and shouts this at two lovers who are about to marry.

That is also the moment I shit myself laughing.
