Joan Baez expresses support for Turkish protesters by interpreting ´Imagine´

America´s rebel folksinger who was once an icon of a generation, Joan Baez, has expressed her support for the ongoing protest movement in Turkey, interpreting John Lennon´s classic "Imagine" in an intimate YouTube video.

Baez, who was present in every major civil protest of her time with her guitar and voice - from the March on Washington to the 1989´s Velvet Revolution in the former Czechoslovakia - did not stay indifferent to the demands of the Turkish protesters.

"I wish to express my support to Turkish citizens, lawyers, doctors, kids, families, students in your courageous peaceful fight to preserve the heart of your culture, the beauty of your land and the soul of your people," she said in a message delivered in English and Turkish at the beginning of the video.

"Your voices are being heard everywhere," she assured, before singing the song that marked an era.

Joan Baez is not the first foreign name to show her open support to the Gezi Park protesters. Intellectuals such as the American linguist Noam Chomsky and the Sloven philosopher Slavoj Zizek also expressed their support at the beginning of the protests, which have now entered their fourth week. Many prominent Turkish artists are also intimately involved in the demonstrations.

Note : Peaceful protests always gives the best and effective message.

O piyano serbest bırakıldı!

Taksim meydanında piyano çalan Martello´nun "el konulan" piyanosu tahliye oldu.

Günlerce gaz bombaları ve TOMA’ların sesi duyulan Taksim Meydanı’nde geçtiğimiz günlerde müzik sesleri yankılanmıştı.

Davide Martello piyanosuyla Taksim Meydanı’ndaki Atatürk Anıtı yanında vatandaşları vermişti. Taksim’de iki akşam üst üste Gezi Parkı direnişçilerine konser veren İtalyan piyanist Davide Martello’nun piyanosuna, Gezi Parkı’nın boşaltıldığı geçtiğimiz cumartesi akşamı polis tarafından el konuldu.

Harbiye’de piyano çalmak isteyen Mortello’nun olduğu yere önce polis biber gazı sıkmış ardından Martello’nun cep telefonu, arabası ve piyanosuna el koydu.

“Piyanom olmadan hiçbir yere gidemem” diye Mortello, halen kayıp piyanosunu bulmak için mücadele ediyordu. Piyanonun Kasımpaşa’da bir otoparkta tutulduğu öğrenilmişti. Martello’nun piyanosu gün itibariyle serbest kaldı.

German pianist gets his instrument back

A German pianist, who gave support to protestors at Taksim Square, was separated from his instrument during a harsh police intervention against Gezi Park protestors. The piano was delivered to him back after a couple of days…

Davide Martello, a German pianist, showed his support to Gezi Park protestors at Istanbul’s Taksim Square by playing his instrument at the city’s one of the busiest squares. But he was separated from his piano during a police intervention that removed the protestors from the square and the park.

The German musician’s piano was given back to him on Tuesday. The German pianist received his piano at a car park near Galatasaray High School, where he had his souvenir photos taken with his piano.

Note :  None violent , using music to protest things  never harm  anybody..it gets always support.  I am glad  that he got his piano back.
