yaka ´side, shore´. ´I think İstanbul´un hangi yakasında means ´on which side of the Bosphorus´ and the answer is Avrupa yakasında or Anadolu yakasında.

If you want a more specified answer try İstanbul´un neresinde yaşıyorsun?

-e yakın ´close to´. Kadiköy´e yakın mı yaşıyorsun?

(My Try.)

The question "Hangi yaka...?" can be applied in situations where a channel or some dividing body of water is involved.

Strictly speaking, you can not ask " İstanbulun hangi yakasında yaşıyorsun ?" or " Beşiktaşin hangi yakasında yaşıyorsun ?", simply because there is no dividing water body or  "yaka" involved.

You can however ask questions like "Boğazın hangi yakasında yaşıyorsun ?" or "Haliç´in hangi yakasında çalışıyorsun?".

Avrupa and Anadolu are not two "yaka"s of İstanbul. ..They are two "yaka"s of Bosphorus.
