Hello, I saw the sign ^ in some cases like:  â   or   î .

What is there meaning ?

are they an official part of the turkish graphics ?

I would like to use them for personal indication and don´t want to have any ambiguity as to its meaning

Thank you

its only a vocal difference. we use "hats" to make the words that come from persian or arabic to sound like their original parsian or arabic sounds. "hatted" letters resemble the letters that they come from but they are different letters. for example hala is a different word than hâlâ. if it comes on a, it becomes a sound ike a/e and lenghtens it. if it comes on ı, it either makes a sound like a lenghened i, or a y/ı sound. if it comes on u, it makes lenghtened u/ö.

sometime ago they werent official but then they were made official again. tdk goes in serious zigzags about this hat rule. they are not included in the alphabet though. so better to learn them as if they are official.

this explains it better

How to type "â", "Â" in Turkish Q keyboard:

Press shift, while holding shift key press 3 above "W" and "E" keys. Then release your fingers and press "A" key one time. Same with "î" and "û"
