“Out of the night that covers me, Black as the Pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.”
William Ernest Henley: Invictus

A Captain is never the driving force for any ship; it is either the fire in the machine room or the wind in the sails that bring the ship alive.

True, however the influence of the Captain should never be underestimated. The Captain is like a good coach who coaches the team to win.
RIP Mr. Mandela

FYI - Nelson Mandela was inspired by this poem. The words "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul" gave him strength while he was imprisoned in Robben Island for 27 years. Hence I found it appropriate to post this here. My intention with this post is to pay tribute to a true legend who is a major inspiration for most of us. May he rest in peace.

In my mind what makes Mandela superior to other freedom leaders is that he acknowledged and respected the rights of women and his freedom ideology was not only for men unlike in most such events.
On the August 9, 1995, South Africa’s first National Women’s Day, he made his intentions clear:
“As a tribute to the legions of women who navigated the path of fighting for justice before us, we ought to imprint in the supreme law of the land, firm principles upholding the rights of women. The women themselves and the whole of society, must make this a prime responsibility […] Together, we have it in our power to change South Africa for the better.”

true, but with no direction wind may destroy, like a typhoon or hurricane, fire left unattended, can destroy a forest, village and more.
A Captain is never the driving force for any ship; it is either the fire in the machine room or the wind in the sails that bring the ship alive.
