I understand it partially, but I am confused as to how you would rephrase this in English...

"Mangal yürekli" means brave hearted. Here he uses "az" (little) to be modest. He means that they are brave hearted.

The translations "we are not that ardent" is wrong "az mangal yürekliyizdir" means "we are very brave"
