Just a few questions about addressing parents or elders, in Turkey.

Should children address their Father as Baba? Is it offensive to call them by their first name? What about when the children become adults?

Same for Father-In-Law, should a women address her husband´s father as Baba, first name or either way is OK?

It is the same with Mothers?

Definitely always call mum and dad anne and baba. I´ve never heard any Turk address their parent by their name. Even when talking about them to a third person they´d pretty much always say annem and babam.

The only exception I can give to this is a very modern educated family from Ankara where the adult children call their mum anne, but the lady´s daughter who is 6 years old doesn´t call her nan grandma or granny but calls her by her name Havoş (short for Havva).

With every rule there´s always and exception -- particularly when generalising about culture

But what about to a parent-in-law? Would a Father be offended if his child´s spouse called him by his first name? What if one is not comfortable calling a parent-in-law as Baba or Anne?

Yes, he would be offended. Addressing should be as follows :

Father ---> Baba

Mother ---> Anne

Mother in law ---> Anne

Father in law ---> Baba
