With similar-to-English sentence order, it would be:

Bu bölgede yaşadım, ben öğrenciyken. 

You can change the position of the comma, as well.

Bu bölgede yaşadım ben, öğrenciyken. 

But these versions sound more like as if they are from a Turkish poem!

Bu bölgede yaşadım ben, öğrenciyken,

Şu köşede tökezledim her sabah

İşte tam burada vuruldum sana

Çaya düşen kesme şeker gibi

Eritti beni alev saçların...

(OK, I better stop here!)

 

For everyday language, it is better to revert the sentence order:

Ben öğrenciyken, bu bölgede yaşadım.
