Özgecan Aslan (22 October 1995 – 11 February 2015) was a Turkish university student who was murdered as she resisted a rape attempt on 11 February 2015 on a minibus in Mersin. Her burnt body was discovered on 13 February, with the murder allegedly being committed by the minibus driver and his two accomplices.

The murder caused nationwide outrage and sparked protests across the country on the following days. Thousands of protesters took to the streets in several provinces, with some criticizing the government for its "insufficient response" and alleged normalization of the rape of non-conservative women. It also provoked calls for reforms to combat violence against women more effectively. The case received great attention on social media and prompted women to share their experiences of harassment, with February 16 being dubbed as "Black Monday" due to protests.

Böyle üzücü bir olay üzerinden lütfen siyaset yapmayın. Ayıptır, günahtır. Mekanı cennet olsun.

Well, these kind of incidents (men killing women for any reason) often happens and it´s noteworthy that it ´s happening more and more (stats say it increased 14 times in last 10 years).

Addition:

This incident is mentioned here:

3) Turkey

Istanbul is less than a four-hour flight from London, but it is poles apart when it comes to attitudes towards woman.

The attempted rape and subsequent murder of 20-year-old student Ozgecan Aslan last week thrust the thorny issue of gender-based violence directly into the headlines.

The horrific crime sparked dozens of protests by women seeking to raise awareness of violence against women, which is still a taboo subject in Turkey.
