Hello there

I recently started learning Turkish, and i follow the Pimsleur course. There´s something i really don´t understand though.

In one of the units, he says

"Çay içeyim" (ee- chay-- im  - I´m not sure about spelling) which is supposed to mean "I would like to drink tea"

What kind of conjugation is used on içmek here? Why not say "Çay içmek istiyorum"? Isn´t that the same as "I would like to drink tea"?

I´ve been wondering about that for a while, and can´t seem to find anything about that. Any help would be appreciated

Çay içmek istiyorum is literally: I want to drink tea.

Çay içeyim is literally: let me drink tea. Here is a link to this tense: http://www.turkishlanguage.co.uk/submood.htm

I really not sure which one is better or how they would be taken. I think both are fine.

The answer may vary depending on the question type:

Q- What would you like to drink?

(there are three ways of asking this in Turkish)

1- Ne içmek istersiniz? (what would you like to drink?)

2- Ne içersiniz? (what would you drink?)

3- İçecek ne alırsınız? (what drink would you take?)

* The verbs can also be in past form: -isterdiniz, - içerdiniz, - alırdınız)

A- I would like to drink tea

1- Çay isterim - çay isteyeyim  ( I want tea)

2- Çay içerim - çay içeyim (I drink tea)

3- Çay alırım - çay alayım (I take tea)

The most popular answer to all is "çay."
