Can someone explain the difference between karışım and karışık? And when to use each one.

For example I was buying olive from the market and I said karışık olsunlar...i wanted my olives mixed with different kinds soo then the seller said karışım mı? Not sure why that was said instead of karışık.

karışık is adjective, karışım is noun.

karışık yağ, karışık meyve suyu, karışık salata ...

yağ karışımı, sulu karışım, katı karışım ...

you said true, maybe the seller couldn´t hear you completely

Or maybe he said "karıştırayım mı?" and he probably said it fast and it sounded like "karışım mı"

Karışım is a noun, the closest translation in english is mixture.

eg. This cocktail is a mixture of tomato juice and tequila.

Bu kokteyl domates suyu ve tekilanın (bir) karışımı(dır).

Karışık is an adjective, the closest translation in english is mixed/blended or sometimes complex (if we use a figurative expression=mecazi anlatım)

eg. I ordered a mixed salad for dinner.

Akşam yemeği için karışık salata sipariş ettim.

eg. This is a very complex situation. (figurative)

Bu çok karışık bir durum. (mecazi)
