Hello everyone,

I wonder if someone could tell me the difference between the following:

seçmem gerek

seçmem gerekiyor

seçmek gerekir

seçmek gerek

I am cofused about when to use the possessive and when to use the -mak/mek

also the tenses just seem to make it more complicated!

Thanks

I´m not sure about all of these. But here is what I understand:

seçmem would be like a verbal noun

- seçmem gerek - I need to choose

- seçmem gerekiyor - I need to choose

seçmek is infinitive, you use it with istemek

seçmek istiyorum - I want to choose

or with zorunda

Seçmek zorundasın - You have to choose

Gerek can be used as noun and verb meaning necessary or to be/become necessary.

seçmem gerek  = My choosing is necessary

seçmem gerekiyor = My choosing is being/becoming necessary

seçmek gerekir = It becomes necessary to choose

seçmek gerek = It is necessary to choose
