Here are the pretty much final results:

Parti                              Oy            Oran
[AKP] (i.e. Erdogan)         18700993    %40.8
[CHP] (social democratic)  11462393    %25.0
[MHP] (Nationalist)            7486832    %16.3
[HDP] (Kurdish)                5981413     %13

The AKP Party, after all those protests in Taksim Square, was still able to win Istanbul somehow?

I´m curious how everyone here voted or would have voted, so feel free to post your choice.

I´m not sure what´s meant by a good result for Democracy in Turkey - since they´ve already had about 15 previous Demcratic elections.

For the HDP, considering the letter ´W´ used to be illegal in Turkey, I think it´s a good result. Although, I´m not sure about some of their policies. For example a ´co-presidential system of leadership, with one chairman and one chairwoman´ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peoples%27_Democratic_Party_%28Turkey%29) sounds idealistic but I don´t think that could work in practice if they ever won.

I said I was only giving my opinion as a foreigner and bow to those with better knowledge of the Turkish political system. By a good result for democracy I meant that I was under the impression that the President was interfering and trying to reduce the power of the Assembly and increasing his presidential powers. Also if the HDP got 13% of the vote they deserve their place in the Assembly. That is what democracy is all about.
