Hello there,

I am still a beginner learning turkish and would like to know if there is a differnce in usage of the turkish word meaning "what"... What is the difference between ne, neyi, hangi, and neleri ... I know -ler and -lar means its plural ... but is there a differnce when each of these forms of the word are used or are they pretty much synonymous when pertaining to usuage? Thanks.

Hello

Let me explain the differences between them and if you have more questions, please don´t hesitate to ask:

Ne/Neler: What/What(plural)

It is the same and simple usage of "what".

What is this? - Bu ne?

What is your name? - Adın ne?

What do you want? - Ne istiyorsun?

Neyi/Neleri: What/What(plural) (referring to the object)

It is also "what" but this time the object of the sentence is affected by it. The subject is going to do something with the object. And after having the answer it will be more clear.

Neyi bekliyorsun? - What are you waiting for?

Otobüsü bekliyorum - I´m waiting the bus

Neyi kutluyoruz? - What are we celebrating?

Dani´nin doğum gününü kutluyoruz - We are celebrating Dani´s birthday.

Neyi bilmek istiyorsun? - What do you want to know?

Sınav sonucumu bilmek istiyorum - I want to know my exam result.

Hangi/Hangileri: Which/Which (plural)

This is also same as "which".

Hangi parka gidelim? - Which park should we go to?

Hangileri daha güzel? - Which are these better?

Senin evin hangisi? - Which one is your house?
