Question intonations

In English, questions answerable by Yes or No have rising intonation (the intonation goes up at the end), while other questions have falling intonation. Is this the same in Turkish? For example: Gidiyor musun? Since it´s a Yes/No question, does it also follow a rising intonation?

No. In Turkish sentences, stress is on the word preceding the verb or the question participle. If you want to place emphasis on a certain word, you can construct your sentences accordingly though:

Dün seni gördüm. I saw you yesterday

Seni dün gördüm. I saw you yesterday

Seni dün ben gördüm. I saw you yesterday

Eve gidiyor musun? Are you going home ?

Eve mi gidiyorsun? Are you going home ?

Eve sen mi gidiyorsun? Are you going home ?

The words in bold are stressed and pronounced louder.

Thanks so much! Quick question, though: Are there instances when rising intonation is used in Turkish?
