1. I had difficulty translating the word ´awkward´ such as an awkward situation.

How would you say: Their home has become an awkward place.

2. I was wondering about commas in Turkish, they seem to be used less often then in Engish.

How would you say: I spoke to Jamie, whom I ´ve never met in person, on the phone yesterday.

1. One by one translation is ;

Evleri kötü bir yer oldu.

However in daily Turkish, we are saying "Evleri viraneye döndü."

2. Dün Jamie ile telefonda konuştum ki; onunla hiç tanışmadım.

Or

Dün hiç tanımadığım Jamie ile telefonda konuştum.

How about when I can write negative to be with a verb.

How can I say: You realized he is not smart.

Zeki değil fark ettin.

Zeki olmadığı fark ettin.

Are these OK?

Zeki olmadığını fark ettin.

Fark ettin ki zeki değil = Correct but kind of clumsy unless it is followed by another sentence.

Fark ettin ki zeki değil, daha basit anlatmaya çalış.= When(or once) you realize that he is not smart, try to explain things more easily.

You can also use "bakmak" in the same sense. Idiomatically, it means to reason or realize something.

Baktın (ki) zeki değil, daha basit anlatmaya çalış.

Zeki değil, fark ettin.= He is not smart, you realized that.
