Merhaba,

What is the grammatical difference between "alıp" and "almak"? In other words, when do you use "alıp" and when do you use "almak" in a sentence. I heard "alıp" in the dizi "Kara Para Aşk":

"..Onun tek istediyi elmasları alıp kaçmaktı"

Teşekkürlar

Alıp is not a verb on its own. -Ip is only used when in a sentence two verbs apppear with the same suffixes.

The -ip/up/ıp/üp suffix has the same meaning as the suffix of the next verb in the sentence and can be translated as ´and´.

See for further explanation here:

Examples:

Dükkana gidip ekmek alıp bana getirirsin. = You go to the shop, buy bread and bring it to me. (Instead of: ´Dükkana gidersin ekmek alırsın bana getirsin

Eve gidip çay içiyorum. = I´m going home and drink tea.

Arabaya atlayıp çarşıya gidiyoruz. = We jump into the car and drive to the centre.

I think your sentence "Onun tek istediyi elmasları alıp kaçmaktı" means "The only thing he wanted was to take the diamonds and run."
