I am a learner, please can a knowledgable person explain what this construction really means?

>> ´yapamadığını düşünen .... <<

In its context, I seem to get the meaning but liguistically I do not comprehend this phrase.

Thanks

Hello,

"yapamadığını düşünen" means "(a person/thing) which/who thinks that he/she/it cannot do (something)."

yap- (do) [from yap-mak]

yap-a- (can do)

yap-a-ma (cannot do)

yap-a-ma-dı-ğı (cannot do, but with the -i case)

yap-a-ma-dı-ğı-nı ([his/her/its] cannot doing)

also for "düşünen"

düşün- (think) [from the verb düşün-mek]

düşün-en (someone who thinks)

I hope it helps. Smile

Thank you very much symanteg .... you are a very knowledgable person and explained to me well.

I knew the ´Yapmak´ bit and the ´Düşünmek´ bit ... I misread ´Yapamadığını´ [ being dislexic, I did not see the -a-] but read it as ´yapmadığını´ instead.... I just could not tie the expression together properly.

Thank you for your trouble canim.

How can a thing think?

gukuyum efendi ... you are partly correct.  However, instead of ´Thing´ one ought to use the term ´it´ .... in English there are 3 genders, viz., male, female and common gender.  For example Monkey, Tiger, Bird etc., are referred to as ´it´.

Computers, Robots and some automated ´Machines´ are also referred to as ´it´ ... it is believed that there is such a ´thing´ [or process] as ´artificial intelligence´ ... which can ´think´ or chose between alternatives ... like translation engines.  It can be said that ´it´ can ´think´ [in a manner of speaking].

But, as I said, you are also right in what you say.
